Hay Fever: ( Allergic Rhinitis )
Not Long ago,
Allergists'
offices were packed with patients returning for weekly injections for
allergy desensitization. Then came non sedating antihistamines
followed by nasal steroid sprays, which freed the patients from the
dual trap of Benadryl drowsiness and weekly injections. Most recently,
a new class of medications originally designed for Asthma, have shown
benefits for Hay Fever sufferers. These newer medications are not
steroids, and are effective in mild Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis. For
parents concerned about growth effects of inhaled and nasal spray
steroids on their children, these new drygs offer an alternative. Most
studies show however that final height attainment in children is
minimally affected by the use of inhaled steroids ( half an inch ).
