Chicken Pox ( Varicella) Vaccine:
Now that the chicken pox vaccine is universally mandated, it is
important
to realize that
unvaccinated
children living in an increasingly vaccinated world have deminishing
chances
of
contracting
the natural disease. These unvaccinated children will grow up without
immunity
to
chicken pox. Thus, they are at risk for getting it as adults, where
scarring
and pneumonia are
more
likey from the virus. Risk of Shingles in adulthood is no greater in
vaccinated children
than in their unvaccinated counterparts. A second booster in Kindergarten
is now being recommended.
