Vitamin Supplementation
1. Excessive Vitamin A intake may
lead to increased bone fracture rate.
2. Folic Acid or
Folate is beneficial for heart disease. ( .4 to 1 mg )
3. Vitamin E
supplementation is controversial in heart disease prevention
3. Mega Doses of
Vitamin C remain controversial in prevention of the common cold, and
chronic mega dosing of vitamin C may lead to kidney stones.
4. Thiamin ( B2 ) is
protective in alcoholism ( 100 mg twice a day )
5. Vitamin K is to be
avoided when taking Coumadin ( a blood thinner )
6. Vitamin B12 is beneficial for energy utilization and bone marrow
stimulation. ( 125-500 mcg per day )
7. Vitamin D supplementation 400 IU per day is recommended for use in
post-menopausal women.
8. Niacin a B vitamin, in massive doses ( 500-2000 mg ) is used in the
treatment of Elevated Cholesterol. At this dose, facial flushing
and liver enzyme elevation are common.
9. Beta Carotene supplementation has been determined to be harmful, by
increasing the risk of lung and other cancers.
10. Vitamin B6 is used to treat Nausea in Pregnancy.
